METAIRIE, La. — Two days after Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was arrested for speeding in Kenner, New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen shared his thoughts with the media following team practice on Wednesday.
“He understands he made a mistake and has to slow down," Allen told reporters. "We want him to be safe and keep others safe, so he has to slow down.”
Bodycam video released by the Kenner Police Department on Tuesday showed the second-year pro taken 11th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft being arrested outside his home just blocks from where he was reportedly clocked driving 70 miles per hour in a 35-mph speed zone.
The 23-year-old could be overheard asking an officer if he was being arrested and saying, "I play for the Saints."
Shortly after the video was released, Olave made his first statement since the arrest on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, in which he posted, "Damn crazy world" in one tweet and "They couldn’t wait to try to tear me down & bash me" in a since-deleted tweet 20 minutes later.
This is the second offense for Olave, who was cited for speeding in Kenner in August.
Next up for New Orleans is a road game in Indianapolis against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 29. Last Thursday, the Saints lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-24.
Currently, Chris Olave is expected to play.
