Saints Camp: Chase Young turns heads, new OC sings praise and more bad luck injuries?

Saints conclude Day 6 of training camp at UC-Irvine.

IRVINE, Calif. — The New Orleans Saints have averaged nearly an injury a day closing in on the first full week of training camp with all eyes fixated on No. 1 receiver Chris Olave as he limped off the field on Day 6 with just minutes remaining in practice.

Following practice, head coach Dennis Allen didn't have much information, saying: "I think he just landed on his hip, his hip, that's really about all I got."

Other notable injuries this week include cornerback Marshon Lattimore (hip flexor), running back Kendre Miller (hamstring), and offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri (calf). Second-year defensive tackle Bryan Bresee is currently suffering from a foot injury.

Prior to training camp, defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon tore his Achilles and tight end Juwan Johnson required foot surgery. Offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk is expected to miss at least four games due to offseason knee surgery.

Meanwhile, recently acquired defensive end Chase Young continues to gain more reps in camp after undergoing offseason neck surgery following his signing with the Saints in March. Young played part of last season with San Francisco after spending his first 3.5 seasons with the Washington Commanders.

The 6-5, 265-pounder has turned heads the last two days in pads.

"He's certainly a disruptive player and you can tell the difference when he's out there," Allen said. "Now it's really about bringing him slowly along, allowing him to continue to get more and more reps so he gets his body in football condition, and then he can make sure he understands what we're trying to do within the scheme."

Offensively speaking, new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak made his training camp debut in front of the media and immediately praised his players for reporting to camp ready to seamlessly pick up where they left off during OTAs.

"First couple of days of pads here, I like where we're headed, but we'll never be satisfied. We'll just always try to get better," explained Kubiak.

"Was really pleased with when we came back from the summer that guys picked up right where they left off," he continued. "We didn't have to start from scratch.

"There's a lot of retention. Mentally, I think that just says a lot about the character of the guys that Mickey Loomis and Jeff [Ireland] have brought here – the guys that are smart football players. We need all the smart guys we can get in. We have some."
