NEW ORLEANS — According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson will be out indefinitely following scheduled foot surgery next week.

Johnson, who was said to have suffered a lower leg injury during the team's mandatory minicamp practice on Wednesday, will be sidelined for "a while" said Schefter per a Saints source.

"Saints TE Juwan Johnson is scheduled to undergo foot surgery next week that will sideline him 'a while,' per source," posted Schefter on X (formerly known as Twitter). "The hope and belief for now is that he will be back for the start of the season."

The 6-foot-4, 231-pound converted receiver agreed to a two-year contract extension in March 2023 just days before he was due to become a restricted free agent.

Johnson missed four games early last season due to a calf injury he sustained during warm-ups prior to a home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.

He finished the season with 37 receptions for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns, scoring three of those in the last four games.

In 2022, Johnson recorded 65 catches for 508 yards with a career-high – and team-high –  7 touchdowns.
