METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints have lost defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon for the foreseeable future due to a torn Achilles suffered during the offseason.
Coach Dennis Allen announced the injury following Organized Team Activities (OTA) on Tuesday.
Allen is not ruling out a return during the season, but the 29-year-old edge rusher will miss training camp and the start.
“He’s going to be out a little while,” explained Allen. “He’s not going to be ready for training camp and we’ll see how long it takes him to recover."
The 2017 second-rounder out of Villanova joined the Saints in 2021 after four season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, Kpassagnon (pronounced pass-N-yo) recorded 3.5 sacks and played in all 17 games.
“I can say he’s been a valuable part of what we do defensively,” Allen said of Kpassagnon, who signed a $5 million contract extension last year. "I think there’s some versatility in terms of the things he can do, in terms of playing on the edge or even moving into the interior. And you look at a guy who has worked extremely hard like he has, it’s unfortunate that that happens.
“But he’s on the road to recovery. He’s going through the rehab process. He’s going to work as hard as he possibly can to get himself ready as soon as he can. When that is, I don’t know.”
