METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Pelicans provided the latest update on injured Pelicans Jose Alvarado and C.J. McCollum on Wednesday.
McCollum was diagnosed with a partially collapsed right lung on Sunday, was re-examined on Tuesday. Medical imaging showed positive healing, according to a team report. The 32-year-old, who is averaging 21.7 points per game, will be re-evaluated at a later date. No timetable has been provided.
Alvarado continues to make positive advancement in his return-to-play progression after sustaining a sprained right ankle during an offseason workout in September. The 25-year-old, third-year Pels guard has returned to light on-court work and is expected to return to full team practice in the next 1-2 weeks.
Last week, the Pels said injured forward Naji Marshall, who suffered a bone bruise after hyperextending his right knee during a preseason game on Oct. 14, had been cleared to increase rehab activity and begin his return to play process.
Marshall will be re-evaluated within the next week.
Meanwhile, star guard/forward Trey Murphy III, who the team exercised its fourth-year option on last month, is still recovering from a partial meniscectomy on his left knee after he sustained the injury during an offseason workout in early September.
Murphy is expected to make a full recovery and and return to basketball activities within 10-12 weeks off the surgery.
The Pelicans (4-3), who have lost two straight, play the Timberwolves (4-2) in Minnesota on Wednesday night. Zion Williamson is listed as out due to personal reasons, while New Orleans teammate Herb Jones is questionable due to a right fibula contusion.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
