NEW ORLEANS — In your Breakdown: Entergy is taking the air out of mylar balloons with a new PSA.
It says over ominous music, “Balloons add beauty to celebrations… but Mylar Balloons are a threat to the environment… and the power grid in your city and neighborhood.”
The Entergy team shared the PSA with WWL Louisiana Tuesday, which also urges people to avoid mylar balloons and be extra careful with them.
We covered the latest Mylar mayhem just a few weeks ago, after a metallic balloon floated into a line, caused a power outage, and triggered a boil advisory for nearly all of New Orleans for days.
Now there’s talk of New Orleans following in the footsteps of many other cities and states and placing restrictions on them.
Mylar balloons are made of foil-coated plastic and never break down.
They can float for miles and conduct electricity.
After the most recent mess in New Orleans, Entergy is on the offensive. Just last week they posted a different PSA on social media reminding people that balloons, confetti, and streamers, don’t get along well with power lines.
