Power restored to over 7,000 Entergy customers in New Orleans, the second outage in one week

This is the second power outage to happen in New Orleans. Tuesday night, more than 6,500 customers were without power in the Gentilly, Fairgrounds, and Treme.

NEW ORLEANS — Over 7,000 Entergy customers in New Orleans were in the dark following yet another power outage Wednesday morning.

WWL Louisiana’s Winston Reed was on the scene and confirmed that the power is out in part of the Uptown area and the neighborhood east of Audubon Park.

Entergy New Orleans Spokesperson Beau Tidwell said the power came back on for customers just before 6:00 a.m. but did not yet say what may have caused the outage.

“Entergy New Orleans is aware of an outage currently impacting approximately 7,100 customers - primarily in the Uptown area. Entergy crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service. The cause is under investigation at this time," said Tidwell.

Tuesday night, more than 6,500 customers were without power in the Gentilly, Fairgrounds, and Treme neighborhoods of New Orleans Entergy reported.

This also came after a glitch with Entergy’s outage map on Monday, falsely reported a massive power outage that never happened.

"Technical issues briefly generated an error showing approximately 13,000 customers without service in the Kenner area on our view outage map," Entergy said about Monday's outage. "No customers lost power in the area this afternoon."

These latest outages follow a series of outages that have plagued Entergy's vulnerable infrastructure. Mylar balloons have been a particular problem for Entergy New Orleans as they have often been blamed for coming in contact with powerlines and causing power outages. Mylar balloons are such a problem for the city's power grid that the New Orleans City Council entertained the idea of passing a ban on the metallic party balloons.
