National Weather Service confirms EF-1 tornado in Kentwood

The storm had wind peaks up to 100 mph and nearly every tree in the storm's path snapped, the NWS reported.

KENTWOOD, La. — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado hit Kentwood on Tuesday after severe thunderstorms swept through the area.

The storm had wind peaks up to 100 mph and nearly every tree in the storm's path snapped, the NWS reported. It also blew off the tin roof of a shed in the area.

Tuesday's storms caused the I-55 to shut down due to down trees. 

At one point, 10,000 Entergy customers were impacted by the outage, with 5,700 customers without power in Tangipahoa Parish.

Recovery efforts are underway in nearby areas with storm damage like Amite City.
