NEW ORLEANS — Police officers were on the scene Friday morning of what appears to be another round of car break-in's in the city.
Officers were investigating at least seven vehicles with broken windows in the Lower Garden District, this time on Louisiana Avenue. They were parked between Magazine and Tchoupitoulas streets.
It's a sight that's become too familiar in New Orleans in the past months: Drivers wake up to find their cars, anywhere from a few to 40 at a time, with windows smashed and their belongings gone. Sometimes, it's for nothing more than spare change in the cup holder.
Earlier this week, frightening security video caught the moment a resident was shot at after trying to stop a group of car burglars in Uptown.
According to the NOPD, the burglaries happened around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, as a group of five people strolled down Jena Street at Danneel Street in Uptown, pulling door handles and getting into vehicles along the road.
Last week, 41 cars were broken into at the Notre Dame Seminary on S. Claiborne Avenue. Police said Tuesday they had arrested a suspect in connection with those dozens of auto burglaries but were looking for others.
Police officials did not have any immediate information on these Friday break-ins as they started their investigation.
