BATON ROUGE, La. — A former LSU student has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a Westwego man following a bar fight in Baton Rouge, according to WBRZ. Matthew Marsiglia was arrested back in April after allegedly causing the death of Devin Repath, 26, due to blunt force trauma at Fred's Bar.
Court documents showed that Marsiglia, now 22, was "indicted by a grand jury for the manslaughter charge," our partners reported. He was 21 years old at the time of his arrest.
According to our partners at WBRZ, Repath and his friends went to an LSU Baseball game on Mar. 23 and then went to Fred’s Bar for a concert.
In an affidavit, police recounted surveillance video they said showed two groups of men talking. The victim, Repath, was then seen punching another man before the two groups were separated.
A short time later Repath was seen exchanging words with Marsiglia and another man. In the parking lot, police said Repath was seen trying to hit Marsiglia, who ducked and then shoved Repath. At that point, he was knocked to the ground and hit his head on the ground.
Marsiglia was pursuing an engineering degree but he was suspended from LSU after his arrest. He asked a judge to "let him leave Louisiana to work as a ranch hand out of state," WBRZ reported.
