Westwego man dies on bachelor trip

Family members of 26-year-old Devin Repath confirmed his death and created a GoFundMe page to raise money for his partner and children.

BATON ROUGE, La. — A Westwego man is dead after a bar fight in East Baton Rouge over the weekend. Baton Rouge Police say the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

A devoted partner, a doting father, and the life of every party are how family and friends describe Devin Repath.

“They’re obviously distraught and grieving,” Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore said.

District Attorney Hillar Moore is focused on the facts of the case that ended with a 26-year-old father of two dead at a bachelor party.

“Can it surely be in homicide? Absolutely. I know that we're going look at the evidence, continue to look at the evidence as it develops, and then take it one step at a time and there's a lot of work to be done,” Moore said.

According to our partners at WBRZ, Repath and his friends went to an LSU Baseball game Friday night and then went to Fred’s bar for a concert.

Around one o’clock in the morning, Repath was involved in a fight outside of Fred’s.

Eventually, Repath was hospitalized with a critical head injury. Police haven’t made any arrests or said why the fight broke out.

“Position was the victim in? How did he would cause him to hit his head? Was he pushed down or not? So, all of those play a factor and it could range from secondary murder to manslaughter to negligent homicide. Again, it's kind of his fact-intensive,” Moore said.

The family said that Repath was kept on life support until his organs could be donated.

"They're trying to make funeral arrangements. They're going through a difficult time," Moore said.

A GoFundMe page was started to support Repath’s family. As of Monday night, over $40,000 had been raised for Repath’s two young children and his long-term girlfriend.
