Watch this confrontation between a gator fleeing Tropical Storm Barry's waters and a dog

NEW ORLEANS — A Livingston Parish family got a front-row seat to what happens in the animal kingdom as they filmed a standoff between their dog and a baby gator.

The Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness shared the video on their Facebook page amidst Tropical Storm Barry's move through southeastern Louisiana.

"We’ve told you about the possibility of interaction with animals during a flood event," the agency wrote. "Watch what happened to a family in Livingston Parish!"

The gator clearly wasn't easily spooked, as it hissed back at the dog and tried to strike.

Barry made landfall along the Louisiana coast around 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13 as a weak Category 1 hurricane before quickly deteriorating back into a tropical storm.

Heavy rainfall is still expected for much of the southern part of the state, as forecasters anticipate for Barry to weaken and become a tropical depression Sunday as it moves inland.

Barry has caused numerous problems along Louisiana's coast - including overtopping of levees that protect communities in Plaquemines, St. Mary and Terrebonne parishes.
