NEW ORLEANS — As Tropical Storm Barry closes in on the Louisiana coastline, parishes across southern Louisiana are making preparations for the storm, and urging residents to do the same.
While the Louisiana governor and the New Orleans mayor had already declared a State of Emergency, the President has also declared a federal State of Emergency, allowing for aid to begin flowing into the state.

Orleans Parish
Mayor LaToya Cantrell is urging New Orleans residents to gather their supplies up and secure their properties now.
"While it is uncertain what the impact will be, we will be affected and we need to be prepared," she said in a statement.
From trash pick-up to transportation, here are the preparations Orleans Parish is making ahead of the storm.
Jefferson Parish
Trash pickup has been altered, thanks to the approaching storm. Here is what you need to know.
There are also evacuation orders in place for several parts of the parish.
Lafourche Parish
"Whether it's a tropical storm or a category 5, we prepare for the worst, because you never know what mother nature is going to bring you," explained Golden Meadow Mayor Joey Bouziga.

Plaquemines Parish
Plaquemines Parish President Kirk Lepine issued a voluntary evacuation order for the entire east bank of Plaquemines Parish and the area from the Oakville Floodgate all the way south to Venice.
St. Charles Parish
Officials have opened a shelter ahead of the storm making landfall. Several government offices have suspended service for Friday.

St. John Parish
Parish President Robottom signed an Emergency Declaration, which allows parish officials to take precautionary measures.

St. Tammany Parish
“Residents should refresh your preparations for this storm," reminded Parish President Pat Brister. "Have your emergency plans in place, clear debris from your drains, check on your elderly neighbors, have medications in stock, and make sure your family communication plan is set.”

"Terrebonne Parish is as prepared for this storm as we can be at this time," said Parish President Gordon Dove.
