The current forecast calls for 3-8 inches of rain or more for the metro New Orleans area through the weekend.

NEW ORLEANS — With a tropical system expected to develop in the Gulf of Mexico, likely within the next 24 hours - here's what the current forecast projects for southeast Louisiana.

- Invest 92 moves into the Gulf Wednesday and will become a depression

- System moves westward over the next few days, sitting south of us on Thursday

- Heavy rain potential with storms predicted Friday through the weekend

- Rainfall totals could be 6-to-12 inches Friday through Monday. Higher totals may be possible depending on the eventual track

- East winds could cause some coastal flooding

- High wind gusts and perhaps a few spin-up tornadoes may eventually be possibly depending on where the system makes landfall
