TERREBONNE PARISH, La. — One is dead and another is injured after a car struck two pedestrians, according to the Louisiana State Police. The car was trying to avoid colliding with a wrecked car that crashed when a large object fell from a commercial vehicle Thursday on U.S. Highway 90.
Troop C said the crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. and claimed the life of 37-year-old Benjamin Credeur of Rayne, La.
Before the crash, a large object from a commercial vehicle fell on the road and caused the car to break down on the highway.
Credeur and the other pedestrian were standing near the wrecked car when a person driving a Honda struck them both, while trying to avoid crashing into the car.
State police said Credeur suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene. The other victim was taken to a hospital out of the area with moderate injuries.
Troop C said the driver of the Honda was wearing a seatbelt, but was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Honda was determined not to be impaired and voluntarily submitted to a routine blood toxicology sample for analysis.
