NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints dropped their third straight game Sunday to the Lions. They fell behind by 21-0 in the first quarter but rallied to cut into the Lions' lead in the second half. Starting quarterback Derek Carr left the game early in the fourth quarter with back, shoulder, and head injuries after taking a brutal hit from Bruce Irvin.
Jameis Winston replaced Carr. Winston led the Saints to a touchdown in his first drive to cut the Lions' lead to 5. The Saints had the ball with a chance to take the lead in the last three minutes but turned the ball over on downs. The Saints lost their third straight game, 33-28.
