Report: Saints WR Rashid Shaheed placed on IR, out for season

The All-Pro special teams returner is expected to need four to six months recovery time following knee surgery.

NEW ORLEANS — The reeling New Orleans Saints (2-4), losers of four straight, received another blow on Thursday hours ahead of a Week 7 matchup against former team head coach Sean Payton and his visiting Denver Broncos (3-3).

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, wide receiver and All-Pro special teams returner Rashid Shaheed will miss the remainder of the season following surgery earlier in the day to repair a torn meniscus.

Schefter posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Shaheed will need four to six months of recovery time.

The 2022 undrafted free agent only caught one pass for 11 yards in the Saints' 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but he also scored a touchdown on a 56-yard punt return to spark 20 unanswered to take the lead in the first half after initially trailing 17-0.

On the season, Shaheed recorded 20 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns.

The Saints placed Shaheed on Injured Reserve and signed rookie Jermaine Jackson (Idaho) to the active roster, as well as elevating wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown from the practice squad.

Safety Johnathan Abram was also elevated to the active roster from the practice team.

Meanwhile, the Saints' No. 1 receiver Chris Olave is listed as out against the Broncos due to a concussion, as Spencer Rattler will make his second start in the absence of starting quarterback Derek Carr, who is listed as doubtful with an oblique injury.

Quarterback/running back/tight end Taysom Hill is also listed as doubtful due to a fractured rib.

Kickoff against the Broncos is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. inside the Caesars Superdome.
