Report: Rashid Shaheed will undergo meniscus surgery on Thursday, recovery timeline TBD

The Saints host the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

METAIRIE, La. — According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said injured wide receiver and All-Pro special teams returner Rashid Shaheed will undergo meniscus surgery on his left knee on Thursday.

"Dennis Allen also said that Saints WR Rashid Shaheed will undergo surgery on his meniscus, and he now will be out," Schefter posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).  "[Per source, surgery] is now expected to determine whether he will be sidelined multiple weeks or for the rest of the season."

The 2022 undrafted free agent only caught one pass for 11 yards in the Saints' 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but he also scored a touchdown on a 56-yard punt return to spark 20 unanswered to take the lead in the first half after initially trailing 17-0.

This is a huge blow to the reeling Saints (2-4) which lost No. 1 receiver Chris Olave with a concussion in the first quarter of the team's fourth-straight loss.

Allen also ruled out Olave for Thursday night's game against returning Sean Payton and the visiting Denver Broncos (3-3).

This is a developing story and will be updated shortly.
