METAIRIE, La. — According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the New Orleans Saints No. 2 wide receiver and Pro Bowl special teams star Rashid Shaheed did not practice on Monday due to a knee injury a source described as concerning.
The 2022 undrafted free agent only caught one pass for 11 yards in the Saints' 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but he also scored a touchdown on a 56-yard punt return to spark 20 unanswered to take the lead in the first half after initially trailing 17-0.
Rapoport said Shaheed's status is to be determined.
This is a huge blow to the reeling Saints (2-4) which lost No. 1 receiver Chris Olave with a concussion in the first quarter of the team's fourth-straight loss.
New Orleans entered Week 6 without starting quarterback Derek Carr due to an oblique strain suffered in the previous game, as well as offensive weapon Taysom Hill, who is still out with fractured ribs.
To make matters worse, the Saints have a short week to prepare with former head coach Sean Peyton and the Denver Broncos (3-3) coming to town for a Thursday night game.
