NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have confirmed an earlier report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter that All-Pro linebacker Demario Davis has a new contract that should keep him with the team until he retires.
The Saints reworked Davis' previous contract into a two-year deal that will keep the 35-year-old in New Orleans through the 2025 season.
Schefter initially posted details of the extension to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday.
"Saints LB Demario Davis reworked the final year of his deal that had no guarantees, replacing it with a two-year, $17.25 million deal that includes $13.25M fully guaranteed, per source. Davis is 35 years old and now figures to finish his career in New Orleans," Schefter posted.
Taken in the third round, 77th overall by the New York Jets in the 2012 NFL Draft, Davis' career has blossomed since signing with the Saints in 2018. The Mississippi native has been named All-Pro the past five seasons, including First Team in 2019, followed by four straight Second Team nods.
Davis has also been named to the past two Pro Bowls, including this year as a replacement player, after starting all 17 games for the Saints for the second year in a row.
The 12-year veteran posted 121 tackles last season, the most since coming to New Orleans. Davis also recorded 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Last week, the Saints reworked the contract of safety Tyrann Mathieu.
The former St. Augustine and LSU standout will be with the Saints for the next two years.
Both deals, including another restructuring with quarterback Derek Carr's contract last month, will help the Saints get under the NFL's 2024 salary cap threshold.
The new league year starts on Wednesday.
