NEW ORLEANS — Safety Tyrann Mathieu reworked his contract to stay in his hometown.
The former St. Augustine and LSU standout will be with the Saints for the next two years.
The new deal will lower his salary cap hit for this season. That helps the Saints as they work to get that number out of the red before the new league year starts on March 13.
Mathieu has spent the past two seasons with the Saints. He's started all 34 games and leads the team in interceptions with 7.
The Saints also announced that they signed fullback Zander Horvath. Horvath was picked in the 7th round by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2022 draft. He played in 15 games for the Chargers as a rookie. Last season, he did not appear in any regular-season games but spent time on both the Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers practice squads.
