Tulane QB Michael Pratt won't play in bowl game

Multiple sources say Pratt is turning pro and will begin preparing for the Senior Bowl.

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane will be without their starting quarterback Michael Pratt for their bowl game. Multiple sources say Pratt is turning pro and will begin preparing for the Senior Bowl.

College football insider Brett McMurphy said Tulane will start Kai Horton or Justin Ibieta in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27 in Annapolis, Maryland.

Pratt was named the 2023 American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He finished the regular season with 2,168 passing yards and 21 touchdowns against 4 interceptions and a passing completion percentage of 66 percent. He also ran for 376 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Earlier this week Director of Athletics David Harris officially introduced Jon Sumrall as the Green Wave's 42nd head football coach during a press conference at Yulman Stadium on Monday, Dec. 11.

Before the Tulane opening, Sumrall's name was previously associated with coaching searches at both Texas A&M and Mississippi State.

The 41-year-old Sumrall coached Troy to back-to-back Sun Belt Conference championships and is 23-4 in his two years at the school, which is the exact same record former Wave head coach Willie Fritz compiled in his final two seasons at Tulane before leaving to become the head coach at the University of Houston.
