Pelicans assign Liddell, Hawkins to Birmingham Squadron

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans made two roster moves this week by sending second-year forward E.J. Liddell and rookie guard Jordan Hawkins to the Birmingham Squadron, the team's NBA G League affiliate.

Liddell appeared in three games for the Pels this season, averaging 1.3 points and 0.7 rebounds in three minutes per contest. A previous stint with the Squadron last month saw Liddell average 14.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and one assist per game.

Hawkins, who was selected by New Orleans with the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of The University of Connecticut, has appeared in 27 games – including nine starts – for the Pelicans this season, averaging 10.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23.9 minutes per contest.

The Pelicans (17-14) have lost two straight to kick off a five-game homestand. 

New Orleans hosts the Utah Jazz (13-18) at the Smoothie King Center on Thursday.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
