Funeral arrangements set for longtime New Orleans sportscaster Ed Daniels

Ed Daniels died on Friday due to complications following a massive heart attack while in California for Saints training camp last month.

NEW ORLEANS — Funeral arrangements were announced on Monday for the highly respected and beloved sports journalist Ed Daniels.

According to the L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, the public is invited to attend visitation and memorial mass at St. Philip Neri Church, 6500 Kawanee Ave., Metairie, on Thursday, Aug. 22. 

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a Memorial Mass will start at 1 p.m.

His burial will be private, but the public is invited to join the family at Rock N’ Bowl, 3016 S. Carrollton Ave., in New Orleans, for a Celebration of Life from 3 to 5 p.m.

Daniels died at age 67 on Friday.

The longtime WGNO-TV sports director of more than three decades suffered a massive heart attack last month while in California to cover the start of training camp for the New Orleans Saints.

Daniels was hospitalized in Los Angeles for 11 days before being transported back to Ochsner Medical Center in Metairie on Aug. 5, where he later died due to complications from the heart attack.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Daniels, five children, and five grandchildren.
