Some schools, buses delayed due to expected fog and smoke on Thursday

Due to more dense fog and wildfire smoke expected this week, some New Orleans-area schools announced school and bus delays for Thursday, Nov. 9.

NEW ORLEANS — Editor's note: If your school has a delay or closure due to inclement weather conditions due to fog or smoke, please email WWL-TV with the information.

Due to more dense fog and wildfire smoke expected this week, Ben Franklin Elementary Mathematics & Science School and Warren Easton Charter High School announced changes in start times, bus pick-up schedules.

Ben Franklin will delay the start of school by two hours, as well as bus pick-ups.

Those new start times, include:

  • Laurel Campus (Grades 6-8) - start time 9:50 a.m.
  • Jefferson Campus (Grades PK-5) – 10:05 a.m.

Meanwhile, Warren Easton will start at 8:45 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

FirstLine Schools announced they will delay the start of bus pickup by two hours on Thursday, Nov. 9.

However, school start times will remain the same, only bus services will be delayed.

FirstLine Schools, include:

  • Samuel J. Green Charter School
  • Arthur Ashe Charter School
  • Langston Hughes Academy
  • Phillis Wheatley Community School
  • Discovery Plus Program

Students who walk or are dropped off by car should arrive at the normal start time.

FirstLine said 'after-care' will be available at all sites available and afterschool activities will proceed as usual.

KIPP New Orleans Schools also announced delayed school start as well, including:

  • High School students - start time 9:25 a.m.
  • PK-8th grade students - start time 10:15 a.m.

Bus pickups will begin two hours later than usual.

ReNew Schools will also have a two-hour delayed start, including:

  • ReNew Laurel Elementary
  • ReNew Schaumburg Elementary
  • ReNew Dolores T. Aaron Elementary
  • Re New Therapeutic Program

Students should arrive at their bus stop exactly two hours later than normal.

And Robert Russa Moton Charter School will start at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
