Saints fans react to season opener win and Super Bowl halftime headliner

Fans said the 'Cowboys are on the clock' for next week.

NEW ORLEANS — Saints season is here! The Black and Gold dominated in their regular season opener against the Carolina Panthers with a final score of 47-10.

After Sunday's game in the Dome, optimism is high. Fans said the 'Cowboys are on the clock' for next week and that it was the 'first time' they've experienced the Saints scoring that much in the first half.

Some fans are still skeptical despite the blowout win against the Panthers.

“We played the Panthers. I’m going to say this. Sorry Panther fans if you’re watching. Trash team in the NFC South. So maybe," one young fan said.

While fans are excited about what they saw in the Superdome Sunday, there's also a lot of work being done outside as the City of New Orleans prepares to host thousands during Super Bowl LIX.

This summer, in partnership with the state, NFL and Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, the City announced an ambitious plan to complete more than 500 infrastructure projects by the big game.

These include improvements to drainage, lights and roads. Plus, lights that are currently being installed on the Crescent City Connection.

The price tag for the projects is between $40-60 million, depending on how much gets done. The money is coming from state, city and private funding.

Not to mention, the Superdome just underwent major renovations totaling more than half a billion dollars.

“I’m loving it. I’m loving what we’re doing. I’m excited about it. I hope we just keep it going after the Super Bowl. But uh, we’re looking good. The dome is amazing. The dome is beautiful," one fan said on Sunday.

“Yeah, I hope it brings more money and the money is poured back into the city," another fan added.

Sunday's win came hours after a big announcement from the NFL: Rapper and Pulitzer Prize Winner Kendrick Lamar will headline Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Saints fans are split on the news. Some love it, but others said they would like to see local talent take the stage.

“I’m a Kendrick Lamar fan, but I would rather Wayne be the headliner," A Saints fan said, "Cause it’s New Orleans."

Next Sunday, the Saints travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys at noon.
