NEW ORLEANS — The next time you step into the Superdome, you may notice some significant changes. The stadium renovation project, which was eight years in the making, is designed as an experience for the everyday fan.
WWL Louisiana's Winston Reed gave us a look inside the Superdome highlighting the new makeover.
The makeover is all about enhancing the gameday or concert experience not just at the seats but the concession stand, the bar, the bathroom, and everywhere in between.
Super Dome Media Manager Mike Hoss, the perfect game day experience for fans is not just about the about the destination but the journey.
A stadium project by the Superdome launched almost a decade ago, focuses on an open floor plan that helps the flow of foot traffic.
“You’re able to get people into their seats faster and move around the building once you’re in your seat. It’s not just about in and out," Hoss said. " I want to get to a concession. I want to get to the market. I want to get to the restroom. I want to do whatever," he said.
Walls torn down, ceilings gutted, and a streamlined escalator system for general admission seating.
“This is 200. We used to have a floor to 300. Floor to 400. Up to 500 and above," Hoss said. "
"All of that was removed to create this atrium where you can put escalators from two to five. One to two. There’s another escalator from five to 650. So three escalators from the ground to the top of the building in three minutes," he said.
It’s a design built not just for the customer looking for luxury in the 70-yard clubhouse but for the everyday fan.
With parts of the terraces now shaven, expect a better view if you score tickets in the corner seats.
“We have the field-level suites and man, they’re impressive, but for the most part," Hoss said. "We’ve changed the way that Joe Smith in the 100 level or the 200 level or the 400 level in the corners, get to view the game. lol at these video boards. They couldn’t be bigger.”
The latest renovations may really get put to the test this Sunday as the Saints host the Tennessee Titans.
Saints put their money up for this project on January 3.
