ST CHARLES, La. — A fatal multi-car crash on U.S. 90 left one dead and injured others Tuesday evening, according to state police.
Louisiana State Police Troop B said the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. near Pier 90. Troopers said one driver was driving a 2005 Ford Ranger west on U.S. 90, at the same time a 2021 Audi Q8 was traveling east. The driver of the Ranger hit a "large animal" on the road, lost control and crossed the center line when it struck the Audi before crashing into a 2020 Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Audi lost control, traveled into the westbound lanes, where it struck a 2018 GMC Sierra and a 2016 Toyota Camry.
State police identified the driver of the Ranger as 41-year-old Tyler Scott of Hahnville. They said that although Scott wore his seatbelt, he suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
The drivers of the Audi and the Explorer suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in the area. Troop B said the driver of the Toyota was uninjured.
Toxicology samples were taken from all drivers and will be submitted for analysis.
Troopers wish to remind motorists always to make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws and ensure every occupant is properly restrained.
