Parents booked with attempted murder after infant found with severe injuries, Bogalusa Police say

The infant was treated and is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Family services, "with a prognosis of potential long-term effects."

BOGALUSA, La. — The mother and father of a two-month-old baby have been arrested and booked on counts of attempted first-degree murder for what Bogalusa Police say were severe injuries suffered by the child while in their care.

Alexis Bolton, the child’s mother, and Andrew Scott, the child’s father, also face cruelty to juvenile and aggravated battery counts.

According to Bogalusa Police, officers began investigating the case on January 14 and initial findings showed that the infant had both fresh injuries and older injuries that had begun to heal.

Police said the injuries were severe and indicative of physical abuse.

Scott and Bolton told police they didn’t know how the child received the injuries, but detectives said that only those two were in the home with the baby when they occurred.

The baby was released from treatment and is in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services, though police say the effects of the injury could be long term.
