LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. — Many Lafourche Parish schools are closed Friday amid water issues, the parish school board announced.
Area houses and businesses were expected to experience low water pressure as well, as crews worked to repair a water main issue near a treatment plant.
"Due to water related challenges Central Lafourche High School, Career Magnet Center, all Lockport and all South Lafourche area schools will be closed today Jan. 26," the parish school board said on Friday morning at around 4:30.
In the school board's statement, they shared a message from the parish water district which detailed a mainline leak that happened Friday morning.
"The Lafourche Parish Water District lost all water pressure in its distribution system between the Highway 654 Bridge (Gheens Bridge) and the Lafourche-Jefferson parish line," the water district's general manager said. "This is a result of a mainline leak near the South Water Treatment Plant."
