Less than a day after the U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing barge worker who fell in the Mississippi River near the Huey P. Long Bridge on Saturday, the body of 55-year-old Darrell Roberson was found.

According to officials from the Port of New Orleans, Harbor Police recovered Roberson on Monday afternoon in the river near Harahan, La.

Roberson's body has been turned over to the JP Coroner's Office.

While an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday morning to confirm identity, Roberson's relatives say the body belongs to their beloved family member.

Coast Guard rescue crews searched more than 20 miles downriver and a combined 164 square nautical miles for approximately 10 hours before making the difficult decision to suspend the search on Sunday night.

The Coast Guard has not confirmed how the man went missing or why the search was suspended.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated once further information becomes available.
