French Quarter shooting shocks locals, tourists with one dead and others hurt

New Orleans police identified three alleged shooters: Daniel Miorana, who they arrested, and his brother Daniel Miorana and Darrell Adams, who remain at large.

NEW ORLEANS — A popular French Quarter restaurant remained closed for lunch Friday, one day after a shooting left one woman dead and three others injured near Iberville and Royal streets.

Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse sustained several shattered windows and a bullet hole near its front door. Someone placed a bouquet of flowers on the sidewalk where a 27-year-old woman was killed in the gunfire. Two men and another woman were also injured.

"We do believe the individuals that were shot, as we've seen on multiple images out there, were the intended targets," said Lt. Andrew Waldron of the New Orleans Police Department's homicide division.

New Orleans police identified three alleged shooters: Daniel Miorana, who they arrested, and his brother Daniel Miorana and Darrell Adams, who remain at large.

Locals and visitors were walking along Iberville Street when shots rang out Thursday. San Francisco tourists Bob and Ryan Kerr had just entered Felix's Restaurant moments before the shooting began.

"My father and I were just walking down the street from the hotel to go have some lunch at Felix's and ten seconds after we entered the door we heard an array of gunfire and shots," Ryan Kerr said.

His father added, "If we hadn't stepped inside Felix's, as they say, we could have been in the line of fire. That's our thoughts, yes."

"Get out of New Orleans now...get out," an injured woman warned visitors as paramedics rushed her toward a waiting ambulance.

Despite her warning, Ryan Kerr remained optimistic about the city. "Trying to enjoy the beautiful city that you have, and it is gorgeous. Hope this doesn't take away from anybody coming here to visit," he said.

NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick noted the city has seen a decrease in murders compared to last year.

"As of today, we have had 115 murders in this city. But when you compare it to this same time last year, we were at 181 murders," Kirkpatrick said.

She confirmed all four shooting victims, including the woman who died, are from the local area.
