2024 'Feed the Multitudes' serves up 35th Fourth of July celebration

For 35 years, Feed the Multitudes has given back to the community and once again the event did just that.

METAIRIE, La. — Feed the Multitudes is an annual event in Metairie that aims to give back to the community on July 4th.

For 35 years the event has given back to the community.

Victory Church Pastor Frank Bailey said, "It started when we were in trouble as a church in 1990, we just finished building our building that's behind us here and it looked like we weren't going to be able to make it. I just felt strongly impressed to find people hurting worse than us and reach out to them and that's what our church started doing, we started Feed the Multitudes."

According to Pastor Bailey, everything is free and there is plenty to eat.

"We have thousands of pieces of BBQ chicken, thousands of servings of jambalaya, red beans and rice, snowballs, hot dogs, watermelon, cake," he explained.

With plates upon plates of food and live entertainment all afternoon, what's better than eating and listening to live music on the 4th?

How about getting your hair done?

Chantal Young says she can't do her own hair right now due to a current disability.

"It's a blessing for me because my hands are giving me a lot of trouble," Young told WWL. "My hands are in braces due to carpal tunnel."

You could also get your nails painted. Erin Zitzman did other people's nails for free, a way she says allows her to give back.

Zitzman said, "I'm honored to sit here and fellowship and let the Lord let me love on the people around me."

"There's a peace about it and this joy, this joy that is just contagious," she continued.

As many across the country and our city struggle to make ends meet, this event reminds people there is joy in our city, and Feed the Multitudes is helping spread that joy.
