Viewers capture waterspout over Lake Pontchartrain on the 4th of July

A waterspout was also spotted on the Lake on July 4th, 1981, according to the National Weather Service.

NEW ORLEANS β€” Dozens of viewers sent images and videos of a massive waterspout seen from New Orleans East and Slidell areas Thursday morning.

The spout was spotted as scattered showers and storms moved across southern Louisiana.

A waterspout was also spotted on the Lake on July 4th, 1981, according to the National Weather Service.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office posted a video of deputies dodging the waterspout on the lake.
