NEW ORLEANS — On Monday, the New Orleans Police Department released previously unseen body cam footage from four officers involved in a violent shootout that led to a nine-hour standoff in the Florida neighborhood on Oct. 5.
The incident culminated at 2 p.m. in the 3100 block of North Tonti Street after Fifth District officers responded to a shooting incident in the 2300 block of Louisa Street involving two gunshot wound victims, one of which later died at the hospital.
Devin Green, 36, was identified as the suspect.
Members of the NOPD’s Special Operations Division (SOD) joined the NOPD Homicide Unit as a perimeter was established around the residence.
Two individuals exited the residence at around 6:50 p.m., however Green remained inside and opened fire at the officers multiple times.
Three SOD officers, Rene Benjamin, Jr., Antravis Turner and Cody O’Dell, returned fire.
A SWAT roll was then declared.
No one was injured by the firearm discharges by Green, nor by those from the officers.
After a nine-hour standoff, Green ultimately surrendered to SWAT members the following morning.
Green was arrested and booked on the following charges:
- One count of second-degree murder (in the Louisa Street incident)
- One count of attempted second-degree murder (in the Louisa Street incident)
- 14 counts of attempted first-degree murder (in the North Tonti Street incident)
- One count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies
