NEW ORLEANS — A man was arrested after shooting at NOPD officers while they attempted to serve a high-risk warrant on Saturday evening. Police said Devin Green, 36, was arrested following an hours-long standoff, according to The New Orleans Police Department.
He was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and additional charges are expected to follow.
NOPD said they were responding to an officer in need of assistance in the 3100 block of N. Tonti Street around 6:50 p.m.
They said Green barricaded himself inside of a residence and refused to come out of the home. Officers said Green was a suspect wanted in a shooting that happened on Saturday afternoon on Louisa Street around 2 p.m. Two men were shot and one of them died.
Then about five hours later, the officers went to a house around the corner from the shooting to serve the warrant when Green started shooting at NOPD officers.
"The NOPD Crisis Negotiations Team made multiple attempts to contact Green, but he did not respond," a release said. "After several hours, Green ultimately surrendered to police without further incident."
No injuries were reported at the time of the shooting.
WWL Louisiana's Rachel Handley was on the scene and reported "a suspect in a fatal shooting this afternoon shot at an officer then barricaded himself inside."
"A SWAT roll has yet to be declared," a release said.
A large perimeter was set up around the scene.
NOPD asked that the public avoid the area of Feliciana Street and N. Miro Street.
The investigation remains active.
