Two arrested in LaPlace double homicide that killed an 11-year-old girl and her uncle, Sheriff reports

Saint John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre will hold a news conference Monday afternoon to officially announce the arrests.

LAPLACE, La. — Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of an 11-year-old girl and her uncle.

Saint John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre will hold a news conference Monday afternoon to officially announce the arrests and the suspects' identities.

Investigators with the St. John The Baptist Sheriff’s Office say 11-year-old Samiya McClain and 50-year-old Ron Tate were killed at a home on North Sugar Ridge Road Friday night. A third victim suffered a graze wound in the shooting.

Sheriff Tregre said investigators believe the shooting was “not random,” and that the victims were "targeted."

Security cameras captured a vehicle pull up to the home and at least a dozen rounds were fired the sheriff said.

Before the shooting, investigators learned the family had been “planning a birthday party for a 3-year-old.”

WWL Louisiana will update this developing story once the sheriff has revealed more information at the planned press conference.
