LAPLACE, La. — The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a triple shooting in LaPlace that killed two of the victims.
The sheriff’s office says it happened Friday night.
“Deputies responded to a report of gunfire at a house in the 1300 block of North Sugar Ridge Drive at 11:48 p.m. and found three victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds,” said a sheriff’s office report.
Two of the victims, an 11-year-old girl and a 50-year-old man, succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at a local hospital. A third victim was injured from being grazed by a gunshot.
St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said Samiya Mcclain, 11 and Ron Tate, 50 were related, uncle and niece, WWL Louisiana's Rachel Handley reported.
Sheriff Tregre said the two were blowing up balloons for a toddler's birthday party when someone started shooting into the house.
