AMITE, La. — UPDATE: TPSO announced the arrest of Omarion Hookfin, 19, leaving just 20-year-old Jamarcus Cyprian still at large.
A manhunt is underway in Tangipahoa Parish as deputies with TPSO are currently searching for four escaped inmates from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the four inmates escaped through a section of the perimeter fence during recreation time.
The four inmates have been identified as:
- Omarion Hookfin – 19, Hammond
- Avery Guidry – 19, Natalbany
- Jamarcus Cyprian – 20, Amite
- Tra'von Johnson – 21, Natalbany
Johnson, Hookfin and Guidry were in jail following their arrest in connection with a 2022 fatal home invasion in Hammond that ended with a 12-year-old girl in the hospital and her 33-year-old father dead.
Hoofkin is also said to be facing charges of aggravated battery while incarcerated in Catahoula Parish.
Meanwhile, Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery and weapon charges.
Following the escape, the fence was found to be "vulnerable and easily maneuvered" which allowed the inmates to slip through the barrier.
Sheriff Edwards is asking anyone with info on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact 911.
