4 teens arrested after 15-year-old reportedly drives stolen car into house

A 13-year-old and 15-year-old were among those arrested in LaPlace Wednesday after crashing a reportedly stolen car into a house.

LAPLACE, La. — Four teenagers were arrested in St. John Parish Wednesday after driving away from deputies and crashing into a LaPlace house, parish sheriff's said Thursday.

A 15-year-old was driving the car that had been reported stolen, police said a call came in about the car at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

"Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle traveling on Cambridge Drive in LaPlace," SJPSO said Thursday. "Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver ... refused to stop."

There were three passengers inside the car, a 13-year-old boy and two 18-year-olds, Oscar Smith and Avante Ursin.

Before the 15-year-old crashed into the house on Virginian Colony, that 13-year-old and Smith had jumped out of the car and ran away. Ursin had been inside the car when it crashed, deputies said.

"The 15-year-old was charged with speeding, driver must be licensed, reckless operation of a motor vehicle (misdemeanor), illegal possession of stolen things (felony,) resisting officer by flight (misdemeanor)"

Law enforcement said that the 15-year-old had ran through 21 stop signs and yield signs before crashing the car.

The 13-year-old who had ran away on foot was also arrested for resisting arrest and for having stolen items.

The two 18-year-olds were also arrested.

There were no injuries reported from this incident.

While the 13-year-old was released to his mother, the other teenagers have been held on bond, according to deputies.

The crash in St. John Parish is among a slew of recent car crashes in Southeast Louisiana that involved drivers ramming into houses.

On Thursday, seven people were inside an Algiers house when a driver crashed through the wall. A week earlier a FedEx truck crashed into a house in Houma, with surveillance video capturing the accident.

In both incidents no major injuries were reported by authorities.
