Woman arrested for Mid-City shooting that killed one and injured four

Chante Mark, 24, was arrested for the murder of 29-year-old Raven Francis following a shooting at the intersection of Baudin and South Solomon Streets last weekend.

NEW ORLEANS — A woman was arrested in connection to the shooting and murder of another woman in Mid-City, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office says they helped NOPD arrest 24-year-old Chante Mark. Officers found Mark Wednesday morning at a hotel in Chalmette.

Mark allegedly shot and killed 29-year-old Raven Francis following a shooting at the intersection of Baudin and South Solomon Streets last weekend.

NOPD said a fight in the parking lot of Shamrock Bar and Grill led to the shooting.

"Throughout the course of the investigation, Detective James Fyfe positively identified Chante Mark as the person responsible for the murder and secured an arrest warrant."

Four other women were also injured in the shooting. Neighbors told WWL Louisiana that the car was traveling down Solomon Street when the driver lost control and struck a fire hydrant located at the intersection of Solomon and Baudin.

A nearby neighbor told WWL Louisiana that he assisted with getting the driver out of the car and into another vehicle to be taken to UMC.

The 29-year-old Raven Francis was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.

Mark is being held at the St. Bernard Parish Jail as a fugitive out of Orleans Parish.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are imminent, NOPD said.
