NEW ORLEANS — UPDATE: The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office released the identity of the victim on the morning Tuesday, Sept. 3, as 29-year-old Raven Francis.
Five women were hurt in a shooting overnight in New Orleans, and one did not survive, according to NOPD.
Neighbors in Mid-City were awakened around 2:30 a.m. by the chaotic scene.
“We heard approximately 4-6 gunshots," Rebecca King said. "I came out to my front door. I heard all the commotion. The screaming and crying. Walked out my front door and saw a vehicle turned over," she said.
Neighbors told WWL Louisiana that the car was traveling down Solomon Street when the driver lost control and struck a fire hydrant located at the intersection of Solomon and Baudin.
“They were yelling that she was dead," King said.
A nearby neighbor told WWL Louisiana that he assisted with getting the driver out of the car and into another vehicle to be taken to UMC.
The 29-year-old Raven Francis was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.
The other four women in the vehicle were treated on scene for their gunshot wounds, NOPD said.
King overheard the women talking to authorities about what led up to the crash.
“They were coming back from the Shamrock, and this was kind of like a bypass from an altercation. They were getting followed," King said.

NOPD confirmed there was an altercation between two parties at a business in the 4100 Block of South Carrollton Avenue.
As the woman left, the gunman opened fire, police said.
Neighbors near Solomon and Baudin said they did not see the shooter or their vehicle.
Sewerage and Water Board crews repaired the fire hydrant on Sunday.
The car was towed off and the damages were repaired, but the scars of what happened are still there.
“Little uneasy. Cause we’re pretty quiet, homey. We have a nice little neighborhood here and we try to keep it that way," King said.
“Drinking and guns don’t mix," said Councilmember Joe Giarrusso in a statement. "The loss of life is tragic and, just as we have with other spots in the District, we will work with the City on whether this was an isolated incident or a pattern. If the latter, then we will join with the City on taking the necessary corrective action," he said.
