NOPD arrests 16-year-old in Washington business owner homicide

According to the NOPD, the suspect is being held in Jefferson Parish on unrelated charges and will be brought to Orleans Parish and booked on second-degree murder.

NEW ORLEANS — NOPD officers arrested a 16-year-old boy, who is believed to be tied to the shooting death of Washington business owner Jacob Carter. 

Carter, a bagel shop owner from Tacoma, was identified Monday morning by the Orleans Parish coroner after a deadly shooting on Jan. 5. He was killed in the Marigny early Friday morning. NOPD said Carter was found dead after a shooting near Bourbon and Kerlerec Streets at about 1:30 a.m. 

According to the NOPD, the suspect is being held in Jefferson Parish on unrelated charges and will be brought to Orleans Parish and booked on second-degree murder.

Officers found a stolen Kia in Bayou St. John on Tuesday. NOPD said the Kia was involved in the homicide and then dumped the car into the bayou.

Project NOLA assisted NOPD with its collection of crime cameras across the city, to help police identify the car of interest and the alleged suspect, Nola.com reported. 

Carter had been in New Orleans on vacation with his husband and co-founder of Howdy Bagel, Daniel Blagovich, according to an Instagram post from Sunday

As of Tuesday afternoon, a fundraiser for Howdy Bagel and Blagovich has raised nearly $208,000.
