32-year-old man identified in fatal Marigny shooting

It is reportedly the city's second killing of 2024.

NEW ORLEANS — A man was shot and killed in the Marigny early Friday near the intersection of Bourbon and Kerlerec Streets.    

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m.

According to police, officers were sent to the location and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as 32-year-old Jacob Carter.

WWL Louisiana sister station KING 5 News in Seattle, described Carter as a popular Tacoma, Washington bagel shop owner, who was visiting New Orleans on vacation with his husband.

There was no immediate word on a suspect or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident marks the city's second reported homicide of 2024. According to WWL Louisiana media partner Nola.com, the city's first killing was reported on New Year's Day, when officers found 27-year-old Eddie Rodrigue dead under a mattress in the 7200 block of Burke Road. 

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later determined Rodrigue died of a gunshot wound and classified the death as a homicide.
