Man wanted for questioning in brutal homicide near French Quarter

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department released the image and identify of a soon-to-be 36-year-old (Sept. 7) man they believe may have information regarding the brutal beating and strangulation of a woman found on Aug.  19.

Police say Courtney Cantrell is the last individual to allegedly have contact with 44-year-old Patricia Fitzgerald, whose body was found under the Governor Nicholls Street Wharf at approximately 8  a.m. last Monday.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office reported that Fitzgerald sustained blunt force injuries and manual strangulation at the time of the homicide.

The NOPD said Cantrell is not currently wanted on any criminal charges in this incident, and that he is simply wanted for questioning as he may have information critical to the investigation.

Police ask anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation, including the location of the listed person of interest, to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
