Man charged in deadly CCC crash that killed WGNO sports producer

The man charged in the deadly crash that killed longtime WGNO sports producer Mark Deane appeared in court on Tuesday.

NEW ORLEANS — The man charged in the deadly crash that killed a longtime WGNO sports producer appeared in court in New Orleans court on Tuesday.

Jorge Martinez-Sanchez, 29, is facing one count of negligent homicide and other traffic charges after he hit the back of a motorcycle that was driven by 48-year-old Mark Deane.

He is also being held without bond.

The incident happened on the Crescent City Connection on Friday.

Deane was thrown from the bike and died at the scene.

Attorney General Liz Murrill is prosecuting the case.

She released a statement calling Deane's death heartbreaking and pointed out that Martinez-Sanchez was an undocumented immigrant.

Murrill's statement read:

"Heartbreaking! The person responsible for this horrific crash, 29-year-old Jorge Martinez-Sanchez, is an illegal alien. Our office is prosecuting the case and has secured detention without bond. Martinez-Sanchez has been arrested for negligent homicide, reckless operation, and driving without a license. I’m praying for the family, friends, and co-workers of Mark Deane."

Earlier in the day, funeral arrangements were announced for Deane.

According to Mothe Funeral Homes, Deane will be laid to rest Friday at the Westlawn Memorial Park.
