Man arrested in Montana for brutal murder of woman in French Quarter, NOPD reports

He was found by authorities hiding out on the tribal lands in Poplar, Montana. He is currently being held by the Fort Peck Tribal Police.

MONTANA, USA — An arrest has been made in the brutal murder of a woman whose body was found under a wharf near the French Quarter last month.

New Orleans police say Courtney Cantrell was arrested Monday by police in Montana for the murder of Patricia Fitzgerald.

He was found by authorities hiding out on the tribal lands in Poplar, Montana. He is currently being held by the Fort Peck Tribal Police.

Cantrell was earlier identified as a person of interest in the case after police said he was the last person seen with Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald was found by NOPD detectives under the Governor Nicholls Street Wharf with head injuries and a bite mark on her abdomen, police reported.

An extradition hearing will be held to determine if Cantrell will be brought back to Louisiana to face charges.
