Friends, family gather on Westbank to remember victims killed in second-line shootings

Two killed and 11 wounded at the Sunday second line, but NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said the shootings were unrelated.

MARRERO, La. — Family and friends gathered at Diva's Bar and Lounge in Marrero on Tuesday evening to remember the lives of Rasean Carter, 21, and Malachi Jackson, 19.

The two men were gunned down Sunday at the Nine Times second line in the St. Roch neighborhood.

Though younger, Jackson was Carter's uncle. The family said they were close in age and hung out like cousins.

Eleven others were wounded at the second line. NOPD reported two shootings that were 45 minutes apart on Almonaster Avenue.

NOPD Supt. Anne Kirkpatrick said the shootings were unrelated.
