NEW ORLEANS — A former model and actor who was previously convicted of sexual offenses is back in jail under new allegations and court records show he may have also violated his sex offender registration requirement.
Friday, Kelly's bail was set at $1.1 million by Magistrate Commissioner Peter Hamilton, who also banned him from the internet. Hamilton ordered that he stay off dating sites and wear a 24/7 ankle monitor if he bails out.
He could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted on all of his current charges.
Dean Kelly received a 10-year suspended sentence and five years of probation in 2014 for sexual battery and carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He later received jail time for violating his probation.
The current accusations, revealed in court records, showed that Kelly was using social media apps to find dates, activities that would violate the terms of his sex offender registration.
Kelly, 52, was booked Thursday on attempted third-degree rape and sexual battery from an incident in October.
Court records indicated that he used the screen name “Casho” and decades old modeling photos of himself to try to secure dates on social media apps. The arrest warrant said he tried to lure women to his family’s lakefront boathouse where he is accused of sexual assault of a woman.
In 2014, Kelly was jailed when a judge found that he had accessed Facebook using a fake name and failed to register several phones with a sex offender registry, violations of his probation at the time.
And, in 2016, Kelly was charged in connection with alleged plots to hire a former fellow inmate to kill Orleans Parish officials.
Our partners at Nola.com said the District Attorney's office requested a Gwen's Law hearing in Kelly's case that was denied by the court and Hamilton issued a non domestic stay away order instead.
The hearing for Kelly will be on Feb. 6 to rule to show cause.
