1 dead in Baton Rouge wreck that damaged 8 cars as police engage in shootout

According to WBRZ, the wreck happened as Baton Rouge P.D. responded to an officer who had been shot at.

BATON ROUGE, La. — One person was killed and eight cars, including police cars, were damaged in a wreck late Friday night in Baton Rouge as law enforcement responded to a call from an officer under fire. 

Police said Caleb James Chappetta, 38, died in the crash. Two Baton Rouge P.D. officers were also hurt in the wreck and taken to the hospital.

According to WBRZ, the wreck happened as Baton Rouge P.D. responded to an officer who had been shot at. Next to the crash, police had a shootout with the suspect in that shooting. 

The shooter is still at large, according to Baton Rouge P.D.
